California-based band Second Still is back this year with two EP’s that follow their so much acclaimed debut Second Still (2017) that combined the definitive sounds of French coldwave with the unconventional time signatures of no wave layering with hauntingly beautiful vocal melodies. The first one is Equals, a five-track EP (which includes a bonus track called “Walls”, if you buy the digital version) that you can now listen below in an exclusive Portuguese premiere.
This new EP marks an evolution in the band’s sonority, with progressions towards a sonically uncharted territory. The four main components of the band’s signature sound are still there, but it has been added a couple analog synthesizers into the arsenal that brings an approach to more pop-oriented songs. Previously, three singles from the album were released, them being “Opening”, “Automata” and “In Order”.
Equals EP is out on April, 20th via Weyrd Son Records. The EP will be released on three different types of vinyl – black (300), silver (200), and silver with white/black splatter (100) – and can be pre-ordered here.
