Closed Mouth is a musical project created by Yannick Rault in 2019 that brings a suitcase with influences ranging from post-punk to new wave, also contemplating the sound atmospheres of genres such as coldwave, gothic-rock, ambient, shoegaze or electronic music. Known by its active presence in the underground scene – with a series of EP’s and singles already release, besides two full albums – the French project is back with Conversation Piece, the third long-player. Over the 14 new themes featured on the tracklist, Closed Mouth bets in a dense, unpredictable, and confusing universe that will instantly catch your attention.
In anticipation of the recently announced album Closed Mouth also advances with the two first new themes: “A Void” and “Two Ways To Choose”. If in the first (“A Void”) we are introduced to the post-punk revival atmospheres intercepted with modern art-rock, in “Two Ways To Choose” the project bets on a garage identity with a conquering adrenaline injection promoted by the catchy synthesizers. Between the exploration of dynamic, lo-fi, and typically dark rhythms, Closed Mouth paints his characteristic and multifaceted environment in a passionate and contagious way. Definitely worth to listen.
To raise higher the expectations about this Conversation Piece, Closed Mouth now advances with a new audiovisual work for “Two Ways To Choose” – a gloomy portrait tinted by flashes of black strobe – which can be premiered below. The video is directed by Yannick Rault himself, who gradually shows us his identity, in a very “Nosferatu inspired” visual work.
Conversation Piece is out due June, 21st in CD and digital via the French label Icy Cold Records. You can pre-order the album here.
