The Danish quintet Deadpan is back with the new single "Lovely Nights", one of those bangers ready to make sweat the dancefloors, that is released today. This new theme follows the "Fool Moon" single and is now presented through an audiovisual work where the characters are the band members themselves and the background environments are being changed with the introduction of their characteristic colors and lots of cuts. "Lovely Nights," a song that joins the melancholy of post-punk to the experimentalism of indietronica, projects Deadpan into the field of the new emerging bands that are worth making themselves heard. Deadpan formed after the split of the band Deadpan Interference in 2016 and include three elements of the original lineup - Martin Funder, Max Cosnier and Sofie Westh - joined by vocalist Arsene Survie (Syringe) and guitarist and synth player Christian Skibdal (formerly The Wands). Fool Moon EP was produced by Oliver Volz (Shiny Darkly) and the video for "Lovely Nights" can be watched below.

Big'n are not exactly superstars in the post-hardcore scene, but they still managed to combine the quintessential elements of the genre. With a bittersweet career which started in 1990, they would part ways in 1997 with two full-lengths on their record. Luckily, Todd Johnson decided to get married in 2001, which led the band to consider a reunion, which (presumably) led to the 2011 EP Spare the Horses, a brand new punch-in-the-stomach to show that no hiatus could rust this "semi-well-oiled machines". Nonetheless, this comeback was not enough to get them touring again - a couple of dates in 2011 and 2013 was all they could muster. Apparently all hope was lost for Big'n fans until November 16th, 2018 (7 years later their last record, for all of you keeping track), the day that Chicago's very own Big'n release their brand new Knife of Sin, a kick-in-the-chin (a comparable feeling to a punch-in-the-stomach) that few can pack. Sure, we have had a good number of very good post-hardcore releases this year - IDLES, Cloud Nothings, Birds In Row and Rolo Tomassi, to name a few. But we will dare to say that Big'n have catapulted themselves from their 7-year sleep into a rightful place for an excellent year for the genre. Along 6 tracks, the quartet hailing from Prison City superimpose Jesus Lizard and Shellac (no surprises there, Knife of Sin was recorded by none other than Steve Albini himself) with no apparent regard for any limiter or amplifier, while also harnessing some of those stop-and-go rhythms from Helmet. The noise rock/post-hardcore group has lost some of its math-y complexity from their earlier days, but their sound is as tight as ever. If you feel like giving your ears a run for their money via (very nicely done) angry shouting and dissonant instrumentals, Knife of Sin is more than adequate and will for sure catch the attention of any traditional post-hardcore fans. Foi em maio deste ano que os dinamarqueses Orbel lançaram o seu primeiro EP de carreira, Beyond There, disco que navega entre dois mundos escuros, impulsionado pelo lirismo e emoções trágicas. Em Beyond There os Orbel vão buscar influências ao rock clássico às quais juntam, de forma ténue, por vezes a brutalidade do doom, por vezes as paisagens calmas e densas do post-rock, por vezes apenas uma atmosfera imersiva. Depois dos vídeos para os temas "Half" e "The Coward", além de uma primeira tour pela Europa, os Orbel apresentam-nos agora uma versão ao vivo do tema "Gorputzak", uma malha de desenvolvimento lento e baseado na repetição que é vocalizada num tom de voz ritualístico e hipnotizante. Oriundos de Aveiro e com o rock como segunda natureza, os Cosmic Mass emergem de Aveiro com doses substanciais de psicadélia a rasgar, por via de, segundo os próprios, "riffs pesados e melodias hipnotizantes". Para além das influências que partem tanto da golden age do rock psicadélico (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Cream), como da "nova" guarda (Queens of the Stone Age, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard), os membros da banda também possuem uma destreza instrumental que resulta em trips sonoras igualmente alucinantes e cativantes, e uma química significativa entre os mesmos, tanto em estúdio como ao vivo. No seu percurso, destacam-se as presenças em eventos como o Festival À Porta (Leiria) e a primeira parte de concerto de bandas como os Boogarins.

Silent Carnival is the project of Marco Giambrone, a journey that began in 2012 and where drones, songwriting, fragile melodies, noise and silence combine and collide with one another in an intimate and sparse sonic landscape. Having already released two studio albums - seft-titled (2014) and Drowning At Low Tide (2016) - Silent Carnival is getting ready to release a new album this year.
Somewhere is an album about visions, dreams and premonitions with many different vibes, widening the colour palette than in the past. Less drones and more acoustic instruments to dress a songwriting free from fences of music genre. Recorded between January and February 2018 in the home-studio based in Cammarata (Sicily), Somewhere confirms band members and constant collaborators Alfonso De Marco, Caterina Fede and Andrea Serrapiglio, adding new musicians like Stefano De Ponti, Luca Swanz Andriolo and Luca Serrapiglio.
In order to promote this new record, Silent Carnival is now releasing the new music video for "Arles", a track about a reflection on past, on places that mark and change our life. That brief moment when you try to relive a feeling, but finding only blurred images. The video was directed by Corrado Lorenzo Vasquez and it tell us in black and white the story of a girl living in her depressed beauty, in a solitude driven reality with a few glimpses of hope. Salopecia started in 2013, in a loud and short show, when the artist Robin Jiro Margerin performed in a tiny gallery space. The multidisciplinary artist born in San Francisco moved to Paris at age 19 to study at the Beaux Arts. During his years in Paris, he has developed a multi-disciplinary set of projects ranging from his personal visual arts practice, organizing collective exhibitions, running artist-run spaces, storytelling, amateur horticulture, relationship advice, not selling drugs and electronic music.
In 2018, there's time for Meanderthal, a thirteen song record that wanders through a schizophrenic jumble of groves that consistently meld the odd with the familiar. Genres are lumped together like so many single-stemmed flowers; the balance achieved is fragile but holding, always with eletronic elements in the matrix. While on late-night rambles, Salopecia breathes little songs into his telephone, something
between mantras and shopping-lists, which he then samples and douses with syncopated
rhythms and synthetic grit. One can hear the influence of 90’s Bay Area hip hop like E-40
or the Hieroglyphics, some of the sweet abstraction of artists from the Anticon label, with a
taste of the absurd pastiche of Ween, for example.

The Mexican duo Deer appear to have just arrived - a single released in 2016 and the Portraits EP released earlier this year account for their discographic work. However, if you dare to look a bit deeper, you find them in some of the major venues and festivals in Asia - Sonar in Hong Kong, Zandari Festa in South Korea, and Spring Scream in Taiwan are just a small fraction of their performance history. Which is what makes Portraits Remixed, their next album, so anticipated: the trip-hop duo was remixed by some big names from both Europe and Asia, and will be releasing these new collaborations on October 12th.

Vindos de Toronto, em Ontario, os canadianos Favours lançaram o seu single de estreia, de seu nome "In The Night", onde revelam a sua sonoridade synthpop influenciada tanto pelas reminiscências da new wave britânica dos anos 80 e 90 como pelas tendências modernas da dream pop.
A música foi gravada com a colaboração do produtor Josh Korody (Dilly Dally, Weaves), e vem com um videoclip cujas cenas foram, segundo os próprios, inspiradas por vários filmes da coleção Criterion, e acaba por intensificar e acompanhar o sentimento de alienação do single.
Quando questionados acerca da inspiração por detrás de "In The Night", a banda menciona que é "uma balada para os que se vêm presos num ciclo rudimentar e repetitivo". Ainda nesse tema, acrescentam que fala sobre escapar da banalidade do dia-a-dia e antecipar o sonho que está fora do alcance. No que toca à identidade sonora da banda, o resultado culmina assim numa sonoridade deleitante e ao mesmo tempo com uma aura de traços soturnos, marcado por um trabalho de baixo palpitante que se encontra taco-a-taco com um som de guitarra bastante vívido e, principalmente, uns sintetizadores igualmente vibrantes e e melancólicos.
Apesar de não haver ainda não confirmação sobre um futuro registo, essa deverá estar para breve.
Ele Ypsis is releasing their fourth album at the end of this week but you can listen to the whole masterpiece that this new Liga Dei is right now, accessing the stream below. With this new album, Ele Ypsis would like to be feared as much as Stravinsky's music in his days, and the truth is that they definitely transmit that, going even further. With a collection of eight songs, as we have already been used to since their first release EKSÜ (2013), this new album is just like poetry to our hears, their lovely compositions produced by Stélian Derenne conjugated with the apotheosis vocals from Laure Le Prunenec suddenly lead us to the landscapes of chaos within such harmonious structures that can't even be described with words. There's this initial classical approach in singles such as "Oro" and "Enso", but just when we get used to it, Ele Ypsis manage to deconstruct the whole thing into a boom of feelings and lots of energy. And then there's the real one, "Turmali", that song that possesses you even if you don't want to. But that's nothing compared to what "Linga Dei" has prepared for you. This Linga Dei is like we've been on a tour to baroque's epoche with Ele Ypsis driving us through their abyssal wonderful avant-garde music.

Alpha Strategy has recently released The Gurgler - one of those very interesting albums to listen to, given its creative perspective - that today sees the spread of another promotional track, the chaotic "I Smell Like a Went Tent". Arising from Canada, Alpha Strategy explores a sound that is hard to categorize, but that certainly fits into the new avant-garde music scene. "I Smell Like a Went Tent" is an example of this, where art-rock and noise are explored between breaks of rhythm, ripped guitars, the endless anxiety of a being and an audiovisual product that illustrates all this chaos, and can now be watched below. The video for "I Smell Like a Went Tent" was directed and edited by Fred Yurichuk and follows "The Gargler", another track that comprises The Gurgler, the second album of the quartet currently based in Toronto. The Gurgler was released on August 31st through Antena Krzyku and you can stream/buy the full album here.

Para o mês de setembro convidámos a dupla francesa - que vai editar no próximo mês de outubro o novo disco Chew-Chew pela Manic Depression e Swiss Dark Nights - a selecionar sete artistas/bandas ou álbuns/músicas que os têm influenciado não só como artistas, mas também como pessoas.

Outra influência da cidade de Nova Iorque. Também muito ligado à cena artística. Obviamente o nosso tipo de texturas de guitarra. O equilíbrio perfeito entre ruído e melodias, experimental e rock'n'roll.

É, sem margem para dúvidas, um artista principal, ele está em toda parte. As "Oblique Strategies", os seus álbuns a solo, os Roxy Music, os seus trabalhos com Bowie e Devo são muito importantes em muitos aspetos. Ele quebra o automatismo da música pop e nos satisfaz com sucessos malucos. A sua criatividade em arranjos e composição acrescentou muitas coisas no nosso trabalho. Ele nos ensinou a ter a mente aberta no processo de estúdio...

Formed in 2015 by Federico Iovino and Sabatel, Dear Deer is the new international band to be part of our rubric "7 ao mês", whose objective is to present bands/artists or promoters by revealing their musical tastes. For September's "7 ao mês" we invited the French duo - who will be releasing their new album, Chew-Chew through Manic Depression and Swiss Dark Nights in October - to select seven artists/bands or albums/songs that have influenced them not only as artists but also as individuals. The seven choices of the French duo that combine the elements of post-punk, noise, no-wave with the charm of disco music, still reveal where they came to get their name, presenting itself as an intense trip to various musical genres. Swans: "Filth" (1983)
As Swans' fans we are in love with latest albums which are close to Glenn Branca, but also early Swans' works. They definitely influenced our first steps, raw energy, dark, bold, radical attitude.
Wire: "Chairs missing" (1978) and "154"(1979)
Wire is for sure another mainstay in the way we think and construct music: energy, creativity in arrangement and melodies. Colin Newman as a solo artist and producer is inseparable from this artistic statement.
LCD Soundsystem: "American Dream" (2017)
James Murphy managed to create sophisticated compositions with influences we love, mixed with sexy beats. A new generation of New York scene. The first generation is just under in our list!

Undoubtfully a main artist, he is everywhere. "Oblique Strategies", his solo albums, Roxy Music, his works with Bowie and Devo are really important in many ways. Breaking automatism of Pop music and satisfies us with crazy hits. His creativity in arrangements and composition brought a lot to our work. He learned us to be open-minded in the studio process...

Shiny Darkly will be opening some shows for Iceage in September, the same month they are set to put out their new record titled Bronze, an album produced by the band and co-produced by Nis Bysted (Choir of Young Believers, Iceage, Lower, Thulebasen etc.) and Jens Benz (Iceage, Bisse, Goodiepal, PowerSolo, etc.) that explores some melodic indie-rock with the roots in the 70's and 80's punk and new wave.
The album is out today, September 14h, via Third Coming Records (France) and Crunchy Frog (Denmark). With Bronze the band is painting from a broader palette, taking a more experimental path and drifting away from the psych/post-punky vibe of their previous releases.

Ciccone Youth - The Whitey Album (1989)
Sonic Youth e Madonna numa tremenda colisão lo-fi! Máquinas barulhentas, guitarras estridentes e pop mainstream todos misturados! Este é o caminho que adoptamos desde o início dos Dead Astropilots. Electro muito reles e distorcido, com riffs de guitarra e estruturas pop. É também uma grande representação do mundo onde temos vivido.
Kraftwerk
Esta banda é provavelmente a mais importante de todas para nós. Eles são a definição de música electrónica clássica. Enquanto músicos, temos backgrounds muito diferentes (Rachel estudou música clássica primeiro, e Simon é um produtor de música eletrónicaautodidata) e os Kraftwerk foram a banda perfeita para reunir as nossas influências e gostos musicais.
Para o Simon, eles também fazem parte das suas primeiras experiências musicais, tendo ouvido Radio-Activity na rádio quando era novo.
The Doors
Os The Doors eram "os nossos Beatles" por muitas razões. Eles eram músicos brilhantes que escreveram belas canções com atmosferas obscuras. Eles também levaram-nos a apreciar poesia e rock de cariz literário. É também graças a eles que descobrimos os escritores da Beat Generation que foram muito influentes na hora de escrever letras.
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds (1980)
O som do Inverno! Nós ouvimos The Cure desde a adolescência. Mas este álbum em particular é-nos mais marcante devido ao seu minimalismo e à sua energia obscura. O Robert Smith também é um dos nossos guitarristas preferidos.
Igor Stravinsky - The Rite Of Spring (1913)
Temos ouvido imensas bandas sonoras de filmes, e para nós, "Le Sacre du Printemps" é a raíz do que é considerado moderno na música clássica. É sempre uma aventura ouvir esta peça. Ouvimos uma versão do ballet em Paris há uns anos sob a direção de Romeo Castellucci. Não havia músicos nem bailarinos em palco. Tinha tudo sido substituído por colunas e máquinas gigantes. Foi uma experiência inesquecível!
Dead Can Dance
Esta banda é a influência mais importante para a Rachel. Não há cantores que se assemelham à Lisa Gerrard. A música deles inspira-nos bastante por causa do cruzamento entre partes tradicionais e arranjos tecnológicos. Foi também uma maneira de descobrir o universo da world music que nos era estranho.
Suicide - Suicide (1977)
Este álbum é tão importante para nós, porque mostra o quão punk a música electrónica consegue ser. Por causa dos Suicide, entrámos num universo de música industrial e electrónica obscura. Também adoramos as letras do Alan Vega. São bruscas e poderosas e ao mesmo tempo poéticas.

This month, we invited the French duo - who released last January, through the Manic Depression Records label, the successor of ... And Reach Palm Springs (2012), titled New Control - challenging them to choose seven artists/bands or albums/tracks that have influenced them as artists or people.
The seven choices of post-punk/electronic duo placed in Lille, that combine elements of monochromatic new-wave to the organic energy from punk and the hypnotic rigor from retro wave music, can be read and listened to below.
Ciccone Youth -The Whitey Album (1989)
Sonic Youth and Madonna in the great lo-fi collider! Noisey machines, screaming guitars and mainstream pop hits mixed together! This is the path we've chosen to take at the very beginning of Dead Astropilots. Very cheap and distorted electro, with guitar riffs and pop structures. It is also a great portrait of the world we've grown up into.
Kraftwerk
This band is probably the most important one for us. It's a definition of electronic classical music. As musicians, we have very different backgrounds (Rachel first studied classical music, and Simon is a self- educated electro producer) and Kraftwerk was the perfect band to reunite all of our influences and tastes in music. For Simon, it's also the first musical memories of his life, when he heard Radio-Activity on the radio as a little child.
The Doors
The Doors are "our Beatles" for many reasons. They were brilliant musicians who wrote songs with beautiful dark atmospheres. They also led us to poetry and literary rock. It's also thanks to them that we discovered the Beat Generation's writers that are a huge influence in our process of writing the lyrics.
The Cure: Seventeen Seconds (1980)
The sound of the winter! Both of us are listening to The Cure since we were teenagers. But this particular album is the most important for us because of its minimalism and dark beauty. Robert Smith is also one of our favorite guitar players.
Igor Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring (1913)
We're listening to a lot of original movie soundtracks, and for us, "The Rite of The Spring" is the root of everything modern in classical music. It's always a trip listening to this piece. We've seen a version of the ballet in Paris a few years ago directed by Romeo Castellucci. There were no musicians or dancers on the stage. Everything had been replaced by gigantic speakers and machines. It's been an unforgettable experience!
Dead Can Dance
This band is Rachel most important influence. Lisa Gerrard has no equivalent among the other singer. Their music is very inspiring for us because it mixes traditional parts with a very technological arrangement. It's also been a way to discover the universe of world music that we didn't know.
Suicide - Suicide (1977)
This album is so important for us because it shows how punk electronic music can be! Because of Suicide, we entered the universe of industrial music and dark electronic. We also love Alan Vega's writing. It's rough and powerful, and so poetic.
