Je T'Aime - JE T'AIME's new album track by track

The French badass post-punk outfit JE T'AIME recently released their debut baby, Je T'Aime, an astonishing album containing a total of eleven songs ready to conquer the audience and to fuel the most dashing dancefloors. With a raw, dirty, controversial, but highly addictive record JE T'AIME is starting to position themselves as one of the new interesting and promising acts within the Parisian underground scene.

Wanting to know more about this incendiary new record, we asked JE T'AIME to explain us the meaning of each of the songs that make part of this new homonymous record, released last May through Icy Cold Records and Manic Depression Records. Enjoy listening to each song while getting some hints about its lyrics, down below:

01. The Sound 

This first album is a concept album describing a man's descent into hell during a Parisian night filled with excesses of all kinds. It shows how decadence ends up taking over love. This first track presents a young couple dancing in a Parisian gothic evening. The drunkenness of the young man ended up annoying the young woman who decided to leave the evening without him, alone. I love you, but I'm leaving you. 

02. Dance 

With "Dance" we get to the heart of the matter, have fun at all costs, or die. The black sky, filled with white powder, is a reference to the blackouts that have been suffered after too much excess. It's obviously a song about the desire to disconnect from reality and forget everything. Let's dance and then we'll see. 

03. The Flying Dutchman 

Like on a ship caught in a storm, the night rages and our hero begins to lose his footing. "My Lord - I'll do as you command" or "My lord - my life is in your hand" refer to the sadomasochistic relationship between the submissive and the dominant. As with the crew of this ghost ship, our hero wanders through an endless night in search of himself. 

04. A Million Suns 

An explosion of light, like an echo to the song "Dance", it is a call to get lost in drunkenness to have fun with its madness. There will be no tomorrow, so why deprive yourself? Just like "The flying dutchman", this text was written by Maria Facquet. 

05. Fuck Me 

As sometimes happens in couples, sex ends up disappearing from everyday life. That's the story of this song. Our hero tries to go home, but he can not find his keys. The door opens and he is violently attacked by his wife, desperate by this love situation. She needs to be fucked, simply. 

06. C++ 

This is about cocaine, it's the one talking. It tells the story and explains how it locks people into its reality. The ++ signs symbolize the abuse of this substance, you always want more. Over the last ten years the presence of this substance in parties has increased considerably. Today, cocaine use has become common.

07. Satan's Bitch 

We find our hero here in the middle of the night, lost and completely drugged. The madness begins to take hold of him. He is in a delirium that could be close to schizophrenia or psychotic delirium, he mixes everything up, delirious and sees images all around him. He has become Satan in person and wants revenge for his failed love stories but also for his friendship stories that ended badly, he is alone. On a screen in the distance is shown the film "La maman et la putain".

08. Hide & Seek 

The depressive song from the album. Hide from the light so that you can better disappear. Hiding from the light so that you can love in secret. The sadness of not being able to live a love story out in the open. It is also about guilt in deceiving the person with whom you live. The mirror never lies. 

09. Merry-Go-Round 

I wrote this text to pay tribute to a close friend who committed suicide last year. He was an extremely intelligent and talented person who did not love humanity. I think if he had the power to make the human race disappear he would not have been embarrassed. It's a bit of a gap in the story we're telling, but at the same time this theme remains very close to the universe we're describing in this album. "Merry-go-round", a series of similar activities that can often seem boring. 

10. Spyglass 

An American film shown on a screen. The story of a young loser who falls in love with a pretty cheerleader who loves the best player on the campus football team. It's completely lame and full of clichés. He masturbates by spying on her with a spyglass. I think we wanted to take a breath. This album is quite dark and we are still people who like to have fun and laugh. And then the American campuses of the 80s, the girls on rollers and the superb Cadillacs driven by stupid teenagers, we love it. 

11. Watch Out! 

The hard return to reality. Our hero lost everything, his keys, his wife and even their four-year-old child lost during the evening. The key refers to his life that he completely destroyed on immature whims. We also understand that he was trying to break into music but without ever wanting to pervert himself into commercial music, so he was poor and wonders if he would not have done better to listen to his wife's advice. In truth, this story is only a pretext to talk about love in our album.

A banda de post-punk francesa JE T'AIME lançou em maio o seu primeiro bebé - Je T'Aime - um disco surpreendente composto por um total de onze canções prontas para conquistar o público e incendiar as pistas de dança mais arrojadas. Através de um registro cru, sujo, controverso, mas altamente viciante, os JE T'AIME estão a começar a posicionar-se como um dos novos artistas interessantes e promissores dentro da cena underground de Paris. 

Neste cenário e com o objetivo de saber mais sobre este novo disco incendiário, perguntámos aos JE T'AIME para nos explicarem o significado de cada uma das músicas que fazem parte deste novo disco homónimo, lançado em maio passado através da Icy Cold Records e Manic Depression Records. Divirtam-se a ouvir cada uma das músicas enquanto conhecem melhor as suas letras do disco, abaixo:

01. The Sound

Este primeiro álbum é um disco conceptual que descreve a descida de um homem ao inferno durante uma noite parisiense cheia de excessos de todos os tipos. Isso mostra como a decadência acaba por tomar partido do amor. Esta primeira faixa apresenta um jovem casal a dançar numa noite gótica parisiense. A embriaguez do jovem acabou por irritar a jovem que decidiu deixar a noite sem ele, sozinha. Eu te amo, mas estou-te a deixar.

02. Dance

Com "Dance", chegamos ao cerne da questão: divertimo-nos a todo custo, ou morremos. O céu negro, cheio de pó branco, é uma referência aos apagões que foram sofridos depois de períodos de muito excesso. É obviamente uma música sobre o desejo de se desconectar da realidade e esquecer tudo. Vamos dançar e depois vemos.

03. The Flying Dutchman

Similarmente a navio preso numa tempestade, a noite enfurece-se e o nosso herói começa a perder o equilíbrio. "My Lord - I'll do as you command" or "My lord - my life is in your hand" refere-se à relação sadomasoquista entre o submisso e o dominante. Tal como acontece com a tripulação desta nave fantasma, o nosso herói perambula por uma noite interminável na procura de si mesmo.

04. A Million Suns

Uma explosão de luz, como um eco para a música "Dance", é uma chamada para nos perdermos na embriaguez por forma a nos divertirmos com a sua loucura. Não vai haver amanhã, então porque nos privar? Assim como "The Flying Dutchman", este texto foi escrito por Maria Facquet.

05. Fuck Me

Como às vezes acontece em casais, o sexo acaba desaparecendo da vida quotidiana. Essa é a história desta música. O nosso herói tenta ir para casa, mas ele não consegue encontrar as suas chaves. A porta abre-se e ele é violentamente atacado pela sua esposa, desesperada por essa situação de amor. Ela precisa ser fodida, simplesmente.

06. C++

Esta música é sobre cocaína, é a único a falar. Conta a história e explica como ela bloqueia as pessoas na sua realidade. Os sinais ++ simbolizam o abuso desta substância, tu sempre queres mais. Nos últimos dez anos, a presença desta substância nas festas aumentou consideravelmente. Hoje, o uso de cocaína tornou-se comum.

07. Satan's Bitch

Encontrámos o nosso herói aqui no meio da noite, perdido e completamente drogado. A loucura começa a tomar conta dele. Ele está num delírio que pode estar próximo da esquizofrenia ou do delírio psicótico, ele mistura tudo, delira e vê imagens ao seu redor. Ele tornou-se Satanás pessoalmente e quer vingança pelas suas histórias de amor fracassadas, mas também pelas histórias de amizade que terminaram mal, ele está sozinho. Numa tela na distância é mostrado o filme "La Maman et la Putain".

08. Hide & Seek

A música depressiva do álbum. Esconde-te da luz para que possas desaparecer de forma mais eficaz. Esconde-te da luz para que possas amar em segredo. A tristeza de não poder viver uma história de amor a céu aberto. É também uma música sobre a culpa de enganares a pessoa com quem vives. O espelho nunca mente.

09. Merry-Go-Round

Eu escrevi este texto para prestar homenagem a um amigo próximo que cometeu suicídio no ano passado. Ele era uma pessoa extremamente inteligente e talentosa que não amava a humanidade. Eu acho que se ele tivesse o poder de fazer a raça humana desaparecer, ele não teria ficado envergonhado. É uma lacuna na história que estamos a contar, mas ao mesmo tempo este tema permanece muito próximo do universo que estamos a descrever neste álbum. "Merry-Go-Round", uma série de atividades semelhantes que muitas vezes podem parecer aborrecidas.

10. Spyglass

Um filme americano mostrado num ecrã. A história de um jovem perdido que se apaixona por uma bonita cheerleader que ama o melhor jogador da equipa de futebol do campus. É completamente coxo e cheio de clichés. Ele masturba-se enquanto a espia com uma luneta. Acho que queríamos respirar. Este álbum é bastante escuro e nós ainda somos pessoas que gostam de se divertir e rir. E então os campus americanos dos anos 80, as meninas com rolos e os Cadillacs soberbos dirigidos por adolescentes estúpidos, nós amamos isto.

11. Watch Out!

O difícil retorno à realidade. O nosso herói perdeu tudo, as suas chaves, a sua esposa e até mesmo o seu filho de quatro anos perdeu durante a noite. A chave refere-se à vida que ele destruiu completamente em caprichos imaturos. Nós também entendemos que ele estava a tentar entrar na música, mas sem querer perverter-se na música comercial. Então ele era pobre e questiona-se sobre se não teria feito melhor ao ouvir o conselho da sua esposa. Na verdade, esta história é apenas um pretexto para falarmos sobre o amor no nosso disco.

[Review] JE T'AIME - Je T'Aime

Há um disco que chegou às prateleiras este ano com um potencial enorme para incendiar as pistas de dança mais arrojadas e que se esconde por trás de um nome tão cliché como Je T'aime. A história deste Je T'aime - o disco de estreia do trio francês que utiliza a mesma designação para se identificar - começou a ser escrita em março de 2018 quando Tall BastArd, Crazy Z e Dany Boy formaram a banda em Paris. Uns meses mais tarde a veia post-punk underground do panorama musical francês recebia uma nova droga, "The Sound", o tema que marcava a estreia da banda JE T'AIME e que fazia tecer expectativas positivas relativamente a futuros trabalhos. Com algum fogo que pegou pela capital francesa com este lançamento, os JE T'AIME foram mais além, tendo escolhido um lugar isolado na costa da Bretanha para se concentrarem na criação de onze novos temas que incorporam o mais recente longa-duração de estreia da banda. 

Fãs dos ambientes do post-punk dos anos 80? Aqui encontram uma pequena bomba para vos pôr a dançar. Através da intercalação entre as batidas monocromáticas e repetitivas da estética que dominou os anos 80 com uma vibe industrial e uma voz que comunica, na maior parte das vezes, em tons de revolta e/ou imposição, os JE T'AIME criam ao longo de onze canções um disco que se apresenta bastante convincente. Composto e gravado no período recorde situado entre abril e novembro de 2018 nos The Attic Studio e Studio Fontaine, os JE T'AIME arranjaram uma fórmula para o sucesso num disco que, sem grandes traços inventivos, consegue indubitavelmente captar a atenção do ouvinte. 

Num esforço conciso entre sintetizadores, guitarra e um baixo ritmado, torna-se óbvio com a audição desta estreia que os JE T'AIME não são fãs das luzes do amanhecer (especialmente se nos focarmos em temas como "Dance" e "A Million Suns"). E se as cavernas soturnas se apresentam como um lugar de segurança para o trio, também descobrimos neste primeiro LP que os mesmos espaços obscuros aportam experiências decadentes e depressivas. Tudo isto apresentado em onze faixas maquilhadas por uma sonoridade alegre e uma aura contagiante. Temas como "The Flying Dutchman" - enriquecido em malhas de sintetizadores abrasivos e ritmos alternados; "A Million Suns" - a fazer lembrar as auras paisagísticas de nomes como The Cure; "C ++" - a desafiar o ouvinte a entrar em constante estado de adrenalina; o provocante "Satan’s Bitch"; "Hide & Seek" - em formato balada; o super proliferativo "Merry-go-round"; o synthwave-inspired "Spyglass" e, para finalizar, a balada que revisita o melhor do período da dream-wave com os seus característicos traços de nostalgia, "Watch Out!". 

Apesar do caracter entertainer e altamente aditivo do disco, há um ponto onde Je T’Aime se apresenta como um disco menos forte: as letras das canções. É certo que este é um disco para reproduzir e dançar sem pensar muito no assunto, mas as letras das músicas refletem, de certo modo, um clima altamente focado na autodestruição e decadência do ser e no lifestyle de músico: sex, drugs & rock'n'roll. Começamos logo com "Dance" ("So we are in a fucking rage to party / Forget everything and get screwed"), prosseguimos com "Fuck Me" ("Tonight is just another drinking night in my life / Who the fuck knows what flows in my veins / Who the fuck knows which girl I fucked but not mine"); "Satan's Bitch" ("I'll live in paradise / Seventy two virgins / Will fall into my arms / seventy two virgins / One of them is your daughter") até chegarmos a "Watch Out!" ("I never found the keys of the house/ And I can’t even find my child / I may have lost her at the party / Just as I lost my dignity"). 

Propositado ou não e, independentemente das letras usadas, a verdade é que ouvir este disco de estreia dos JE T'AIME faz qualquer ouvinte sentir-se um badass, o que faz todo o sentido se tomarmos em atenção a comunicação onde se ergue o primordial trabalho da banda e a imagem visual que os delineia. Je T'Aime é um excelente pontapé de partida para arrasar concertos e fazer suar pistas de dança: é cru, sujo, controverso, mas altamente aditivo e incrível, tal como o amor. E claro, sempre negro e realista: "Je t’aime mais je te quitte", tal como a vida. Uma viagem ao underground parisiense a descobrir  na íntegra, abaixo.

JE T'AIME - "Merry-Go-Round" (video) [Threshold Premiere]

There are bands that born to conquer your heart and make part of your life at a specific time. Some of them will stay and accompany your future and others will just teach you an important lesson and will be later replaced by a suitable sonority. JE T'AIME is one of those bands for us but applying the first case scenario. We fell in love with them since the release of their outstanding debut album and we still feel passionate today about their rousing attitude, almost a year after the born of their first child, JE T'Aime. Since then they have brought us light in such a chaotic world and created a beautiful bond with us to the point we are once again premiering one of its videos, this time for the fueled song "Merry-Go-Round". It may sound really ironic that we fell in love with a band called JE T'AIME but life always surprises you when you are less expecting it to happen so.

It was almost a year ago - weeks before the release of JE T'Aime - that we had this wonderful opportunity to share with the world their catchy video for "Dance" (which you can watch in here), and since that time JE T'AIME just created an ignition point into our whole new vision that there are still bands out there that care for the listeners and the people prior to their fame and recognition. They never wanted to go mainstream and they always stayed true to their persona, giving to the world what they most enjoy doing: to create absolutely addictive sounds to needy souls. It's impossible not to fall in love with a band when they do everything so genuinely and ask for nothing in return, except for our honest opinion and enjoyment (if that's the case applied).

Within the tracklist of JE T'AIME's debut album (which we were also fortunate to present in this dedicated article here), there was this song that instantaneously caught our attention, "Merry-Go-Round". "Merry-Go-Round" - as JE T'AIME has previously explained to us - is a tribute song that they wrote to pay tribute to a close friend, Gregory Wronski, who committed suicide in 2018. According to the band "He was an extremely intelligent and talented person who did not love humanity. (...) It's a bit of a gap in the story we're telling, but at the same time this theme remains very close to the universe we're describing in this album. "Merry-Go-Round", a series of similar activities that can often seem boring."

Though in the new music video for "Merry-Go-Round" JE T'AIME decided not to create screenwriting about his story, they are now composing a new painting of their powerful sound interpreted in a lighted room that gains contrast by their vigorous dark and keen appearance. In a full picture that indeed brings to a visible spectrum the astonishing dark thoughts living inside our beautiful and healthy bodies, when suffering from depression, self-loathing, or another kind of distorted perception through life, JE T'AIME reliefs the grief with an extremely danceable vibe. If you haven't checked the official premiere on their Facebook page a few minutes ago, we are now proud to give it to you below:

JE T'AIME inflamam a Stereogun no Extramuralhas 2020

Os franceses JE T'AIME são o terceiro nome a juntar-se ao alinhamento do festival Extramuralhas 2020. O trio - que tem conquistado uma grande atenção da crítica europeia - formou-se em março de 2018 por Tall BastArd, Crazy Z e Dany Boy e é mais uma das estreias absolutas em território nacional. Na Stereogun a 28 de agosto, os JE T'AIME prometem inflamar a sala com o seu post-punk abrasivo e recheado pelo saudosismo dos anos 80. Tudo a tirar a roupa!

Num esforço conciso entre sintetizadores, guitarra e um baixo ritmado, os JE T'AIME chegam à Stereogun para libertar os espectadores de quaisquer preconceitos e fazê-los dançar até não haver mais músicas. A banda aterra em Leiria para apresentar o disco de estreia Je T'Aime (2019, Manic Depression Records / Icy Cold Records), um excelente pontapé de partida para arrasar concertos e fazer suar pistas de dança: cru, sujo, controverso, mas altamente aditivo e pronto para garantir em Portugal um dos concertos do ano. JE T'AIME - "The Sound" She Pleasures HerSelf Remix (video) [Threshold Premiere]

JE T'AIME - the new addictive scream of modern post-punk - is back. Almost a year after putting out its astonishing debut LP, the French galvanizing outfit is releasing today a new remix EP titled en négatif - REMIXES, as a celebration to Valentine's Day. For those who don't know, JE T'AIME has been growing like fire between de underground European musical scenario since the release of Je T'Aime (2019, Icy Cold Records/Manic Depression), an album that is raw, dirty, controversial, but highly addictive and incredible, just like love. 

en négatif - REMIXES contains a total of five tracks signed by four contemporary names in the darkwave scene: She Pleasures HerSelf, Ash Code, Zus and Ambassador 21. In the album you can find new interpretations for tracks such as "The Sound", "Dance" and "Hide & Seek". To celebrate the release of this new EP, JE T'AIME is also premiering today a new version for the original "The Sound" music video, in which both theme and video are remixed by She Pleasures HerSelf. JE T'AIME's singer Dany Boy explains why did they choose the Portuguese quartet to inaugurate the guest list:

"In this first chapter, we invited David Wolf, producer of She Pleasures HerSelf, who are on the same label as us, Manic Depression. They're coming from Portugal and we like their sound and universe which are quite close to ours. In addition to making us this remix David also offered us a revision of our first video clip of this song, crazy guys".

Regarding en négatif - REMIXES, the singer Dany Boy continues the story:

"We've always liked to hear remixes made by other artists. I can still remember the pleasure I had listening to remixed albums like Noir Désir's One Trip One Noise and Massive Attack's No Protection for a long time. (...) The second band invited on this project is Ash Code, an Italian trio that produces a darkwave sound that we like very much.  I met them briefly on the NCN Festival in 2018 when I was doing the sound for Saigon Blue Rain. Ambassador21 is a Belarusian band of pure industrial music in which Crazy Z. plays guitar. Lovely and passionate people who love to party as much as we do. And to finish we offer you two remixes by Zus, an extremely talented Versailles friend, he is notably the guitarist of Chenille, a crazy French experimental metal band."

JE T'AIME - "Dance" (video) [Threshold Premiere]

The French post-punk outfit JE T'AIME is going to release its first LP this May. After releasing the first single of this new long-awaited debut, "The Sound", the band continues to promote the homonymous album, this time, through a new video for another a song titled "Dance". In "Dance" - which is the first brand new single in a year - the band intercalates the monochromatic and repetitive beats of the post-punk/coldwave aesthetic with an industrial vibe and a revolted voice. The result is a powerful video reflecting some aspects of French life with special emphasis on nightlife and the dancefloors. You can watch it right now, in an exclusive premiere, below.

JE T'AIME formed in Paris in March 2018 and their debut single "The Sound" was released in the spring of 2018. Following the enthusiastic public reception, they started to work on their debut LP that summer, pursuing new sound ambiances in the creation of eleven new tracks. While we can't stream it, we can "Dance".

JE T'AIME celebram um ano do lançamento do disco de estreia com um vídeo DIY

Há cronologicamente um ano atrás os franceses JE T'AIME estavam a lançar cá para fora o disco homónimo Je T'Aime, uma coleção de onze temas imperativos num registo essencialmente cru, sujo, controverso, mas altamente aditivo e incrível, tal como o amor. Desde então até à data os JE T'AIME orgulham-se de terem conquistado um grande renome entre a comunidade underground, muito por culpa da sua atitude arrojada e claramente genuína. Em jeito de celebração do feito a banda lança agora uma nova reinterpretação de alguns dos temas que fizeram incendiar as pistas de dança caseiras. Num novo vídeo que incorpora "The Sound", "A Million Suns" e "Dance", a banda regista o período de uma sociedade em isolamento, sem nunca deixar de ser produtiva.

Dada a situação atual e com toda a incerteza que pauta relativamente ao futuro dos eventos ao vivo, Tall BastArd, Crazy Z e Dany Boy "juntaram-se" em teletrabalho e decidiram oferecer um pequeno retrato caseiro da energia poderosa que prometem fazer ecoar ao vivo. Podemos estar ainda um pouco longe de dividir o mesmo espaço físico que a banda, mas nunca estivemos tão perto de sentir aquela aura única que eles tão bem aportam. A banda formada em março de 2018 por Dany Boy, Tall Bastard e Crazy Z, escolheu um lugar isolado na costa da Bretanha para se concentrar na criação de onze novos temas altamente aliciantes e prontos para fazer vibrar as pistas de dança mais underground por aí fora.

Foi no final de 2018 que a francesa Icy Cold Records começou a dar os primeiros passos na indústria da música underground. Desde então até à data conta já com um catálogo composto por 32 edições onde ganaham destaque nomes como Blood Blush, Sydney Valette, Bring Her, Je T'Aime, DEAD, Les Tétines Noires, entre outros. Para 2020 antecipa-se mais um ano em grande, com foco nas novas edições dos franceses Tisiphone e dos italianos Talk To Her, entre outros anúncios que chegarão a seu tempo. 

Intrigados em saber mais sobre a prolífica editora francesa que se está a tornar num hub para as novas bandas da onda dark, convidámos um dos membros fundadores - Jean Louis Martel - a escolher sete nomes que influenciaram o trabalho que tem feito como label manager ao longo dos últimos anos e que, acima de tudo, o marcaram como pessoa. "É hora de enfrentar uma seleção muito complicada! Mesmo que o pedido seja sobre sete álbuns, vamos começar pela minha música favorita de sempre, eu acho. "Original Sin" dos INXS é a tal, porque se trata da minha primeira emoção musical ao ouvir rádio num camião de gado :-) ... sozinho numa fazenda da Normandia durante uma noite fria do inverno em 1983... fuga, sonhos, espera ... A minha escolha não está relacionada à qualidade da música em si, mas é uma seleção de "sentimentos" que me traz algumas lembranças, pessoas e escolhas de vida."

DEPECHE MODE - The Singles 81-85 (1985)

A primeira é a compilação The Singles 81-85 dos Depeche Mode. Foi a minha primeira cassete. Não tenho muitas coisas a dizer exceto as intermináveis tardes de verão (com cervejas, etc) no nosso pequeno estádio de futebol. Mais de 20 anos depois ainda é um prazer dançar ao som da música deles nos clubes de Paris.

FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM - Earth Inferno (1991)

Depois veio o primeiro concerto que me marcou mesmo a sério, no dia 31 de janeiro na Salle Georges Brassens em Caen, por causa de uma rapariga estranha de preto que eu conheci alguns dias antes... Fields Of The Nephilim e The Oposition durante a sua tour "Rock En France". Então, a minha segunda escolha é o Earth Inferno dos Fields Of The Nephilim (e os 3 álbuns anteriores). Uma explosão para os meus ouvidos, uma revelação, T-Shirts, novo visual (sem chapéu :-)), um novo objetivo, uma mudança real para um rapaz de 18 anos de idade... os primeiros passos na cena gótica. E se eu falar de qualidade ao vivo, os gajos eram brilhantes nesse período. Eu nunca ouvi um concerto tão perfeito desde o Earth Inferno. 

NEW MODEL ARMY - Thunder And Consolation (1989) 

A minha verdadeira etapa de descoberta de música aconteceu em Caen durante os meus anos na faculdade. É difícil escolher um álbum, mas vou mencionar o Thunder And Consolation dos New Model Army. (Poderia também ter sido: o Rise dos Nosferatu pelas garrafas de Zubrowka que proporcionou à beira mar ao final do dia e em apartamentos, o Swamp Thing dos The Chameleons, o But What Ends dos Death In June pelos sentimentos, ou ainda o Sargonid Seals dos Garden Of Delight que acompanhou a minha primeira viagem a Paris até à sala La Locomotive). Passei tantas horas a ouvir a Radio 666 com os programas "Gray Light In Darkness" (David) e "Darkside" (Guillaume): uma real educação musical graças a estas duas grandes pessoas que conheci mais tarde em Paris. 

PINK TURNS BLUE - Ghost (2007)

Paris e uma "vida profissional" em 1998: um período de calma até os meus primeiros passos na Manic Depression Records, no final de 2005. A verdadeira explosão foi a fase da Strobelight Records: algo novo e fresco. Estes gajos fizeram muita coisa e quero mesmo agradecer-lhes. O lançamento deles, Ghost dos Pink Turns Blue está gravado no meu cérebro por razões pessoais. O último "Judgement Day festival" em Dornbirn deu início a uma viagem de carro (o PT Cruiser queimou alguns anos depois) com um passageiro de "alma perdida" ao meu lado. 

BLACKLIST - Midnight Of The Century (2009)

Esse foi o meu novo começo para os próximos 10 anos (para coisas boas e ruins) e o Midnight Of The Century dos Blacklist (que vi no Judgement Day) é o símbolo. Eles vão tocar novamente no WGT este ano. 

WINTER SEVERITY INDEX - Slanting Ray (2014) 

Depois disso entrei no meu período Post-Punk/Coldwave. Era a altura de fazer a Manic Depression Records crescer. O Slanting Ray dos Winter Severity Index (poderia ter sido o People Of Nothing dos People Of Nothing) e o lindo som de guitarra de Simona foi a chave para isso acontecer. Ainda passo o tema "A Sudden Cold" em quase todos os meus DJ Sets. Um novo álbum surpreendente está a vir a caminho. 

VISIONS IN CLOUDS - What If There Is No Way Out (2018) 

A última escolha é What If There Is No Way Out dos Visions In Clouds. Por causa desta banda suiça, a Icy Cold Records foi criada e agradeço muito a eles, mesmo que eu tenha menos tempo livre agora do que antes!!! Também adoro o som deles e a festa de lançamento deste disco em Luzern proporcionou aos membros da Icy Cold Records uma nova viagem iniciática de carro pela Suíça, com uma pausa no Museu Giger, em Gruyères. 

Definitivamente, estes sete álbuns são as minhas sete chaves ... como o conceito original dos Garden Of Delight :-)

It was in late 2018 that French Icy Cold Records began to take its first steps in the underground music industry. Since then until the date, its catalog is already composed of 32 editions which include names such as Blood Blush, Sydney Valette, Bring Her, Je T'Aime, DEAD, Les Tétines Noires, among others. By 2020, another big year is anticipated, with a focus on new editions of the French Tisiphone and Italians Talk To Her, among other announcements that will arrive in the meantime. 

Intrigued to learn more about the prolific French label that is becoming a hub for new dark bands, we invited one of the founding members - Jean Louis Martel - to pick seven names that have influenced the work he has been doing as a label manager over the last few years and, above all, that have marked him as a person. "It's time to face a very complicated selection! Even if the request of Sonia is 7 albums, let's start by my favorite song, forever I guess. INXS "Original Sin" is the one because it's my real first music emotion while listening to the radio in a cattle truck... :-) alone in a farm of Normandy during a cold winter evening in 1983... escape, dreams, hopes... My choice is not related to the quality of the music itself, but it is rather a "feeling" selection that brings me some memories, people and life choices."

DEPECHE MODE - The Singles 81-85 (1985)

The first one is Depeche Mode - The Singles 81-85. My first Tape... not a lot of things to say except endless summer evenings (with beers, etc) in our small football stadium :-) More than 20 years later it’s still a pleasure to dance on their music in Paris clubs.

FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM - Earth Inferno (1991)

Then came my first significant gig on the 31st of January at the venue Salle Georges Brassens in Caen because of a strange girl in black met a few days before… Fields Of The Nephilim and The Opposition during their "Rock En France" tour. So my second choice is Fields Of The Nephilim - Earth Inferno (& the first 3 albums). A blast for my ears, a revelation, T-Shirts, new look (without a hat :-) ), a new goal, a real change for a young 18-year old boy… first steps in the Goth scene. And if I speak of a live quality, these guys were brilliant at this period. I’ve never heard such a perfect live since Earth Inferno.

NEW MODEL ARMY - Thunder And Consolation (1989)

So my real music discovery music step was launched in Caen during my graduate studies. It’s hard to pick one album, but let’s say New Model Army - Thunder And Consolation (it could have been: Nosferatu's Rise for Zubrowka bottles at the evening seashores and in flats, The Chameleons' Swamp Thing, Death In June's But What Ends... for feelings, and Garden Of Delight's Sargonid Seals for my first trip to Paris, to La Locomotive). I've spent so many hours listening to listen to Radio 666 with their "Grey Light In Darkness" (David) and "Darkside" (Guillaume) radio programs: a real music education by these two great guys that I've met later in Paris.

PINK TURNS BLUE - Ghost (2007)

Paris and a "job life" in 1998: a period of calm until my first small steps in Manic Depression Records in late 2005. The real blast was the Strobelight Records phase: something new and fresh. These guys have done so much and I want to thank them. Their release Pink Turns Blue - Ghost is written in my brain for personal reasons. Their last "Judgement Day festival" in Dornbirn has been an initiatory trip by car (PT Cruiser that burned a few years later) with a "lost soul" passenger at my side. 

BLACKLIST - Midnight Of the Century (2009)

That was my new start for the next 10 years (for good and bad things) and Blacklist's Midnight Of The Century (seen there at ) is the symbol. They gonna play again at WGT this year. 

WINTER SEVERITY INDEX - Slanting Ray (2014)

Then I entered my Post-Punk/Coldwave period. It was the time to make Manic Depression Records grow. Winter Severity Index's Slanting Ray (it could have been People Of Nothing - People Of Nothing) and the beautiful guitar sound of Simona has been the key to that. I still play "A Sudden Cold" at almost each of my DJ Sets. A new surprising album is coming very soon. 

VISIONS IN CLOUDS - What If There Is No Way Out (2018)

The last one is Visions in Clouds - What If There Is No Way Out. Because of these Swiss guys, Icy Cold Records has been created and I thank them for this even if I have less free time than before!!! I love their sound too of course. And their Release Party in Luzern has been a new initiatory "Icy Cold's members" trip by car around Switzerland with a step at Giger's Museum in Gruyeres. 

Definitely, these 7 albums are my 7 keys … like the original Garden Of Delight concept :-)
